Modeling Kidney Function Kit

Students construct a model of a kidney using a semipermeable membrane to filter a completely safe solution which simulates blood. The resulting blood solution contains simulated cells which can not cross the semipermeable membrane, remaining in the kidney model. The resulting filtrate resembles urine, which students test for salt and other waste products.

The simulated blood cells can also be seen and counted under a microscope - just like real blood!
